STRATEGY · RESEARCH · GOVERNANCE
The project changes. The standard of research doesn’t
Violet Compass works with organizations operating under public mandate, member governance or significant community accountability.
Depending on the requirements of the RFP, that work may result in:
A strategic plan and implementation framework
A needs assessment or stakeholder-research report
An environmental scan or literature review
A governance or organizational-effectiveness review
A measurement and evaluation framework
A set of strategic findings and recommendations
A board, executive or community presentation
The diagnostic work is not the final deliverable. It is the evidence the deliverable is built on.
Your stakeholders help shape what the findings and priorities say. Violet Compass is responsible for making sense of that evidence, exercising strategic judgment and delivering a finished product your organization can use.
EVIDENCE BEFORE ASSUMPTION
We don’t begin with a blank-page brainstorm. We begin by finding out where you actually stand.
Most organizations do not need another planning exercise built entirely from the perspective of the people already closest to leadership.
They need an honest understanding of what is happening across the organization and around it.
Depending on the project, that can include:
Review of existing strategies, reports, policies and performance data
Environmental scans and literature reviews
Interviews with board members, leaders, employees and partners
Surveys, focus groups and community conversations
Engagement designed specifically to reach people not already connected to the organization
Analysis of where leadership intent and lived organizational experience diverge
Facilitated sense-making and priority-setting
Clear implementation ownership, measures and review points
The exact method is scoped against the requirements of the RFP. The principle stays consistent: understand the real position first, then build the plan, findings or recommendations from that evidence.
ORGANIZATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS
A strong plan needs more than good priorities. It needs a system that can carry them.
Violet Compass examines both the direction an organization has set and the systems that deliver it.
The work is informed by Enterprise Risk Management principles and the Three Lines Model—the governance architecture that distinguishes operational ownership, risk monitoring, and independent assurance.
For organizations without extensive internal strategy, risk or audit capacity, this provides a structured way to examine:
Whether strategic direction is understood consistently
Whether decisions across the organization remain aligned
Whether important information reaches leadership and the board
Whether emerging risks are noticed early
Whether the organization can respond deliberately rather than reactively
Whether priorities remain coherent over time
Where appropriate, Violet Compass also applies the Bearings Rubric, a five-dimension diagnostic covering Clarity, Alignment, Signal, Response Capacity and Coherence Over Time.
The purpose is not to force every project through a proprietary framework. It is to make sure recommendations are grounded in a disciplined understanding of how the organization actually works.
Equity is built into how data is gathered and interpreted.
EQUITY · ACCESSIBILITY · ARAO-INTEGRATED REVIEW
For organizations with Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression (ARAO), equity, accessibility, inclusion or reconciliation commitments.
Those responsibilities shape the engagement from the beginning.
An equity-centred lens informs every Violet Compass engagement.
Where the project requires a deeper, scored examination, the full Equity Lens Assessment can be included in the scope. It assesses three areas: Evidence and Awareness, Belonging and Culture, and Leadership Practice.
This distinction is deliberate. Equity informs the work as a whole; we use the full assessment when the project requires deeper evidence in that specific domain.
We treat a low starting score as information, not an indictment. We name structural patterns directly without turning the work into individual blame.
That means asking more than whether equity appears in the organization’s values.
It means examining:
Whose experience is represented in the evidence
Who is missing from the usual engagement channels
Whether participation methods are accessible and culturally responsive
Where leadership’s understanding differs from employee or community experience
How organizational decisions affect different groups
Whether equity commitments have real ownership, measures and accountability
FOUNDER-LED · CAPACITY-SUPPORTED
Research and delivery capacity scales. Strategic judgement does not get outsourced.
Our founder, Nadi Fantastic, leads every Violet Compass engagement. Nadi brings more than 25 years of experience working inside and across organizations in operations, strategy, communications, marketing and governance.
That includes eight years of dedicated Equity, Diversity and Inclusion consulting across Canadian and US markets.
When an engagement requires additional capacity, Violet Compass brings in vetted research and delivery specialists to support stakeholder interviews, data collection, research, and project logistics.
This gives the engagement enough capacity to meet a formal timeline without spreading the central judgment across a team the client never gets to know.
One person remains accountable for what reaches your board, leadership team or community.
BUILT AGAINST YOUR REQUIREMENTS
Every formal proposal is built directly against the issuing organization’s requirements.
The scope may include:
Project initiation and governance
Research and environmental scanning
Stakeholder-engagement design
Data collection and analysis
Strategic-planning facilitation
Draft and final deliverables
Implementation and measurement frameworks
Board, executive or community presentations
Project-management and communication protocols
Institutional work is not pulled from a package.
It is scoped to the project in front of us.
Fees are based on the actual work required
This includes the depth of research, number and type of stakeholders, engagement methods, deliverables, timeline, and specialist support.
Proposals are structured by phase so evaluators can see what each part of the engagement covers, produces and costs.
Business registration, insurance documentation, references and other procurement materials are available as required by the evaluation process.
